Burning shins when I ran today

today i ran for an hour, the first half hour mainly on the sidewalk, the second half hour on a dirt trail. for the first half hour, i got an unusual burning feeling in my shins, it felt like an accumulation of lactic acid, except it wouldn't go away. i dont think its shin splints because it didnt feel like my actual bone /muscle had anything wrong with it, my shins just kind of felt tired. i wasnt going at a faster pace than usual or anything. when i switched to the dirt trail, i stopped having the burning feeling. someone told me this may have happened because i only slept 6 hrs last night but im not sure

  1. I am always surprised when people still suffer with shin splints and don't seem to know either the cause nor the cure.  Shin splints are caused by muscle imbalance. The front muscles are weak and the calves are strong.

The way to correct Shin splints is to strengthen the muscles at the front of the legs. Lie face down in bed with your toes hanging over the edge. Pull your toes upward against the resistance of the mattress. Try to work up to 3 or 4 sets of 5 – 10 reps each.

There are other variations of this, such as heel walking, hanging a paint can on your toes, or using the angle iron on bleachers to slip your toes under.

    Good Luck

  2. thats shin splints, when your calve muscle is pulling away from your bone, I had this my sophomore year of Cross Country, its because you run on teh sidewalks too much and too much stomping, you should ice it everyday and also put on icy/hot before your run. Take it easy, in order for me to heal it, i had to take time off running. Good Luck. Just ice it a lot
