Question:

Burning stomach when drinking alcohol?

I'm a girl and twice my stomach got so hot like it was burning when I drank alcohol.

First time, I had a glass of Johnnie Walker Black Label (40% alcohol) and ginger ale and my stomach felt really irritated. I didn't feel like I was going to vomit, but it made my stomach burn for a little while.

Second time, I had a glass of old rum (again, 40% alcohol) and coke and my stomach again felt like it was hot. Then my shoulders got stiff I couldn't move them that much.

When I drink beers, shots and wine, I don't feel bad but this only happens with hard stuff. I always drink with a full stomach and I never vomitted from drinking alcohol. Someone explain this to me?

  1. I have a friend with this same exact problem. He drinks Maalox like an hour before he starts drinking alcohol, it makes all the difference in the world. The Maalox lines your stomach, so if there is somethign wrong inside, it wont get quite as irritated.

  2. Possibly an ulcer.  You should see a doctor.

The simply answer is to stay away from the stuff that makes you stick.  Really, if you had an allergy you wouldn't eat the food that you're allergic to.

  3. You may have developed a sensitivity to it or, like the other answerer said, it might be an ulcer of other stomach problem.

  4. Take a few Tums before you start drinking, see if it makes a difference.
