Burning with urination??

My 20 month old son has been running a fever and when he would urinate he would grab his p***s and say OW. His urine is also very strong smelling and when I would clean him with a baby wipe he would say OW. I brought him to the ER last night, he had a fever of 102.2 and they did a cath urine on him and said that everything was fine. Today it is continuing. I picked up him earlier and put him on my hip to carry him like I always do and he started screaming. Any idea of what else this could be? His p***s and everything looks fine...not red or swollen of any sorts. Please give me an idea on what I can go on...Thanks in advance

  1. follow up with the pediatrician.  continue to push fluids, eliminate sweetened drinks, and treat the fever.

  2. It does sound like a UTI. I know the ER tested for this but I would take him back or see your doctor and insist that they find what is wrong. He is running a fever and in pain, clearly he isn't ok. I know from personal experience that you have to be a real pain in the butt to get good care at any ER. Tell them that something is wrong and you won't be leaving until they find the problem.

  3. when you take him back in and if they do another urine test, watch what the urine looks like when it goes into the container One of the first sign of a UTI is cloudy urine when they cath him.

  4. You can not trust the same doctor, doctors make mistakes.

Take him to emergency again and seek another doctor.

I hope your baby gets well, but you must take him to another doctor.

  5. Sounds like a Urinary Tract Infection. My 4 year old son used to get them all the time when he was smaller. I don't think there is anything you can do without a prescription if that is what he's got.

  6. urinary tract infection

  7. Sounds like he might have a UTI. I would call his pediatrician and see what he recommends.

In the meantime--see if you can get him to drink pure Cranberry juice.

  8. Take him to his doctor or and get a referal to a urologist.  He could have a bladder infection.  Did ER check for this?  I hopw he is ok.
