Burnley forced to wait on injury news over Danny Fox and Martin Paterson
Burnley faces a nervous wait to discover the extent of injuries to defender Danny Fox and striker Martin Paterson.
Fox had to be stretchered off during the first half of the 1-1 draw against Doncaster Rovers while Paterson was taken off at half-time. Fox is suspected of having ankle ligament damage while Paterson seems
to be carrying a thigh knock.
"We are l*****g our wounds because we could have picked up two bad injuries.
Martin suffered a thigh strain. He struggled in the last five minutes before half-time and wasn't quite right, so we have to protect that," said Burnley boss Brian
Laws, as reported on the Sky Sports website.
Burnley does have enough cover to cope without these players for a short period of time. However, it is likely to take a few days for tests to be run before precise recovery
dates can be announced.
Not the end of the world
The double injury blow is bad news for the club but it isn't the end of the world. There is cover in the defence and up front, which means Laws will not be forced into
changing his basic game plans for the team.
Tyrone Mears is an ideal candidate to play at left full back while Chris Eagles could move forward from the midfield to play as a striker. There will also be other players
chomping at the bit for a run in the side.
The reason the club hasn't announced any recovery dates is because tests and assessments are still being carried out. Paterson's injury seems the less serious of the two
because any bad ligament damage to Fox's ankle could mean weeks or months out.
"Danny didn't have his best game [against Doncaster].
He has landed on his ankle and it didn't look too clever. There could be ligament damage there, so we'll have to wait and see," added Laws.
Betting advice
Burnley's league position of ninth leaves the club well poised to attack the play-off places. Back Paterson's replacement in particular to have a very fun time in the attack.
