Burnout Crash dated for release on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace
Fans of the Burnout series have reason to celebrate, though a small party with a few select guests would suit the occasion, as another title with the Burnout tag is set to release in August.
Burnout Crash is the latest creation from the studio that gifted the world the Burnout franchise, and breathed life into the stale Need for Speed series, with their work on Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.
Criterion games are now returning to the Burnout franchise with their latest title, Burnout Crash. The game’s publisher, Electronic Arts, made the announcement earlier on in the week regarding the game.
While the exact date has not been revealed, there has been plenty of gameplay footage and trailers of the latest installment in the high octane, no holds barred modern version of Road Rage, all of which point to a solid title on the offering.
According to Richard Franke, the game’s creative director, the game is both unlike previous installments of the game but at the same time very similar as well. Confused? Well it would be a concern if the reader was not.
Apparently the game is supposed to have the haphazard and spontaneous nature of a game show and a game of pinball or as Franke put it, "Burnout Crash is a crazy mix of pinball and game shows.”
While the previous games were nothing like pinball and game shows, they were a breath of fresh air in the racing genre of video games and Burnout Crash looks to be another such breath.
Gamers who played previous versions of the Burnout games, most notable PlayStation 2’ Burnout 2: Point of Impact, will remember a game mode with the same name. The mode required players to drive their car into a busy intersection and cause a massive pile
up, with the amount of damage caused in dollars counted as the score.
The mode was addictive and extremely fun to play, while it was absent in Burnout Paradise, with a slightly different version of the mode, it seems that Crash is back in all its glory.
Franke continued on how in essence it had all the attributes that separate the Burnout series from other games in the market when he explained, "We've evolved the core gameplay which everyone loved about Crash Mode, and expanded the whole experience using
music, style and Autolog to create what we feel is the most mindless fun you can have on any gaming platform."
Burnout Crash is set to ram its way through onto the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace next month. Whether it will live up to expectations is something one can only speculate on at this point, but knowing Criterion Games, it is near certainly
going to be an enjoyable experience.
