I burnt my tongue last night on some hot chocolate, it was pretty hot. Now some of the taste buds where I burnt it are a light pink insted of red. It hurts really bad, what are some household items I could use to ease that pain.

  1. I've never tried this on my tongue, but holding something cold on a burn usually helps the pain. You could use an ice cube, but a bag of frozen peas or another finely chopped vegetable might work better. The cold will hurt a bit, and you don't want to freeze your tongue, so only apply the cold for a short time, then remove it for a few minutes and apply it again. With a burn outside my mouth I usually repeat this process until the pain has largely gone away, but I'm not sure how well it will work on an organ that keeps moving around the way the tongue has to. Worth trying, anyway.

  2. ~Hi~!  One thing that is comforting is the surface of the tongue and mouth are mucus membranes and therefore heal quickly on their own. You will be noticing relief soon (just by your body's natural healing process). Try soothing your mouth with ice cubes or frozen desserts like Ice cream or frozen Yogurt. Let it remain on your tongue before you swallow it (for optimum relief). This will help to numb the pain.

You can also try cough drops that contain phenol (this will numb your tongue). Avoid eating high citrus foods that may irritate your tongue. All of these suggestions won't necessarily speed the healing process (your body needs to do that on it's own, but will offer pain relief)

I hope your tongue feels better soon! =)
