Question:

Burnt something in microwave, still smells

I was microwaving a brownie... I looked in on it when there were 17 seconds left in the time, and it looked fine... then suddenly smoke started pouring out of the vents!

I cleaned out the microwave, wiped out the inside, used two different kinds of cleaner... and the smell is still there!

any ideas on how I can get rid of it, or will it go back to normal on its own...?

  1. let it air dry and clean it again. their may be some staining in there too, that's probebly why it smells

  2. Slice a lemon in half and microwave on high for 1 minute.

  3. Things You’ll Need:

    Paper plate

    Water

    Lemon

    Cloves

    Water

    Vinegar

    Lemon juice

    Lemon Smell Remover

    Step1

Place a paper plate in the center of the microwave to catch any spills.

    Step2

Put some water in a large microwaveable bowl and add half of a chopped lemon and a few cloves. Put the bowl in the microwave, on top of the paper plate.

    Step3

Bring the water to a boil and let it stand in the microwave for 10 to 15 minutes.

    Step4

Remove the bowl, but leave the microwave door open for several hours to air our the microwave completely. If necessary, leave the door open overnight.

    Vinegar Smell Remover

    Step1

Put a cup of water in a large microwave-safe bowl, and add about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of vinegar and lemon juice.

    Step2

Boil the mixture for 5 to 6 minutes, and then allow the water to cool with the door closed.

    Step3

Remove the bowl and leave the door open to dissipate the burn popcorn smell. Use the cooled water to clean and inside of the microwave. Turn on a kitchen fan to help dissipate the smell, if necessary.

As an added bonus, either solution will loosen stuck food and make it very easy to give the microwave a good cleaning.

  4. The previous answer is good, but I would recommend a microwave safe plate vice a paper one, since any moisture on the paper plate can cause a little burning of the paper plate.  Other than that, it's a great method.
