Bursaspor manager believes Manchester United deserved to win
Bursaspor manager Ertugrul Saglam says that Manchester United were deserving winners of the sides’ UEFA Champions League group stage clash on Tuesday, 2 November.
Saglam was pleased with his side’s performance in the first half of the match at the Bursa Ataturk Stadyumu, but three second-half goals — scored by Darren Fletcher and Gabriel Obertan, and an own goal by the home side’s Ali Tandogan — gave the Red Devils a
3-0 win.
That result, coupled with Valencia’s victory over Rangers, means that the Turkish champions cannot now qualify for the second round of the competition.
The Bursaspor head coach told UEFA’s official website that: "We played well, especially in the first half. We created some chances and had free-kicks in dangerous positions.
"If we didn't concede at the start of the second half then the game could have been different. After the second goal Manchester United took control of the game and did what they wanted to in that period — they deserved the win.”
Despite his disappointment that his side will only play two more games in the Champions League this season, Saglam is pleased that his players are able to learn from facing high-quality opponents.
'We are gaining experience by playing world-class opponents'
He added that: "I'm much more positive than before. We are getting better, and gathering experience by playing these world-class opponents."
"Our opponents have a lot of quality players in their squad and they showed us and everyone else how football has to be played. We wanted to record a precious victory for our fans but they know the score. At 3-0 down they gave us a beautiful present by chanting
for all of us."
Bursaspor are at the bottom of Group C, having failed to claim any points. They have a chance to qualify for the UEFA Europa League by finishing in third place, but will have to beat Valencia and Rangers, as well as hope that the Scottish Premier League champions
are defeated by United.
