ok, so i went to the shop and i was checking out the new burton est model, it has a rail system instead of the more traditional hole system for the bindings. with the rail systen u can dial in ur angle more precisely than with the hole system, anyway, the guy at the shop was saying that the rail system will be the new standard in about 7-10 years and that the hole system will be done away with through all brands not just burton. does anyone think this is true? and what do u think of the new rail system?

  1. It probably will in the coming years as long as snowboarding stays as widely spread as it is now.  I mean as long as global warming doesn't melt most of the snow.  Anyways, the EST system is good, there's a huge range of customization for stance settings and what not, but I think it can use some fine tuning.  And then Burton will have to start making it cheaper and have a wider line for it.

I've heard the angle meter gives inaccurate readings sometimes, when the binding hasn't moved at all.  It could say 10 degrees one day and 35 the next, when the binding hasn't shifted at all.

Other than that, it's a possibility for the future as long as the concept is pushed.

  2. the new rail system introduced by burton will certainley replace the old hole system.. it is much more custom and reliable. gnu and libtech are also planning to introduce new rail system bindings in winter '09
