Question:

Burton feather deal?

Hi folks. I'm an intermediate snowboarder (comfortable on blue runs, can occasionally tackle the black) who owns an old Burton Charger. It's a fantastic board, but unfortunately, water has gotten into the base and warped it a little bit. I've been offered a used Burton Feather with burton bindings and burton boots for $150. The Feather is several years old, chipped on the top in three places through the laminate to the wood - but the base is fantastic shape. The boots and bindings are like new. Is this setup a good deal? How much would it cost to fix the chips?

  1. I don't know if I would go for it since it sounds like you already have bindings and boots (unless you want to replace those too), and since Burton Feathers aren't that expensive (I think the retail price is $299 new). There's actually several of this year's Burton Feathers for $199 (all new) on Ebay. I'm not really sure if chips on the top of the board would affect its riding or how much it'd cost to fix them. I guess I just like new stuff though or at least new looking stuff. BTW, isn't the Feather more of a beginner board? I could be wrong though.

  2. dont wory about chips on the top cause they add character to the board.  the only problem is if water can get into the core and cause the feather to warp, but you can sometimes find an epoxy that will seal it back up before this happens.  what i would look for is good edges (cause thats your control) and the base of the feather should not be in too bad of condition.  if you ride rails, you dont want sharp edges and the quality of the board wont matter as much.  main thing.... make sure that it cant get water into the core before you take it to the mountain.

good luck!  150 is a great deal for a decent feather with boots and bindings.  Peace!
