Burwaaz all set for Duke Of York Stakes
Despite the fact Burwaaz does not have an impressive track record under his belt, he has plenty of entries in his pocket. Trainer Ed Dunlop has confirmed that the 3-year-old will run in this week's Duke Of York Stakes as well as Bathwick Tyres Carnarvon
Stakes at Newbury.
After staying out of action for almost seven months, Burwaaz made his comeback at Kempton at the start of this month. The blluesquare.com ascot.co.uk Pavilion Stakes saw him doing nothing special in the early stages of the event, but the talented colt excellently
improved his work afterwards and as a result, grabbed the third place.
Under Paul Hanagan, he remained a bit unlucky, missing the runner-up place by ¾ a length. Ed Dunlop expressed delight over his trainee’s wonderful work at Kempton, saying that he recovered well after being not-so-impressive in the beginning.
"On his last run at Kempton, the bit went through his mouth and he did fantastically well to finish third. We'll wait and see what the ground does, but it would nice to see him win, as he deserves it," said Dunlop.
The novice has registered only a single victory from nine starts so far in his career, but he has been given six more entries. Confirming Burwaaz’s participation in two races this week, the handler hoped that the colt will come up with a fantastic effort.
The trainer shared: "He's in the Duke Of York Stakes on Wednesday and he's going to be entered in the Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury on Friday."
The Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned recorded his maiden success at Leicester last season. The Enderby Median Auction Maiden Stakes saw him topping the chart by a couple of lengths.
On the other hand, Burwaaz’s stable mate, Red Cadeaux, has set sights on Friday's Sportingbet Yorkshire Cup after seizing the runner-up place in the Group 3 Blue Square Levy Board Sagaro Stakes at Kempton earlier this month.
On Red Cadeaux's chances for the imminent event, Dunlop stated: "All being well he'll run in the Yorkshire Cup. He won't run on firm ground, but I don't think we're going to get that."
