Question:

Burying Wire in Conduit

I want to bury a coaxial tv cable (in conduit) to run it from my house to my garage which is roughly 100' away. It will be run underneath a gravel driveway. The land is relatively flat give or take 6" - 12". My question is how deep should I dig to bury it.

  1. You will probably have to contact the city. They have codes about how deep to bury wire. We done our electric to our garage and it was like 12 inches. The city even came out to measure it before we could cover it. We also rented a trench digger, it made it go pretty fast. Hope this helps.

  2. Since there is no lethal voltage in a coax cable you need only bury it deep enough to prevent damage, you could use heave gauge plastic conduit, but you will probably get water into it over time. You will also have to use the best cable you can get as you will lose a LOT of signal in 100'. Why not just fit an aerial on the garage, simpler and cheaper, and a strong signal. (I'm assuming it's for TV use????)

  3. 18"

  4. 6"-12" but you don't need to put it in conduit but if you want to you can!
