  1. In the UK it depends on the bus or rail company and sometimes if it is a subsidized service (the council or a local uthority pay for it to run) it is up to whoever is paying for the service to run.

Generally In the UK it is 14 but some county councils will have some sort of scheme to allow students still in education to continue to travel at half fare.

Bus companies tend to be more lenient about the age in which adult fare should be payed whereas train companies tend to be more strict and ask for proof of age etc or charge adult fare at a younger age.  This is becuase train companies are expected to meet government targets in profit as well as other things so that they can use the money to improve stations, timetables, more staff etc.

  2. In NY area (including Westchester County Bee-Line bus)

$2, also includes Staten Island Railway, Roosevelt Island Tramway.

Express buses charge $5 that includes all X, BxM, BM, QM including Atlantic Express's X23/X24 route, Route 4C.

Long Island Railroad, Metro-North ticket you must paid adult fare. Same reason for New Jersey Transit.

New Jersey Transit and it's carriers under contract with them , buses are based on fare zone including Red & Tan in Hudson County.

Coach USA Inter-Region travel is depend on distance/zone you travel.

Suffolk County Transit charges you $1.50, transfer 25 cent. Only accept cash payment.

Same reason for HART, except it cost $1.25.

Transport of Rockland charges you $1 for local, Tappan Zee Express $1.50

Best deal for Rockland Coach is to obtain SuperSavers Ticket.

  3. That depends on what city and state you live.
