Well i was on a bus going down Tower Bridge road, and the driver took offence at the number of times the passengers rang the bell to get off, and once or twice he shouted out dont keep ringing the f*****g bell. Then some hapless old soul rang the bell to get off next stop , with that he stopped the bus on the roundabout, Bricklayers arms, and informed us if any one rang the bell again,he would chuck all of us off. He then told us he had a bad head ache and could do without it. So we could only get off when he wanted to stop.

This is a true story. As anyone else got similar stories.

  1. Having been a bus driver, I can understand him getting upset about the bell. In the very small cab that is a bus drivers working enviroment, the bell is just behind your head and can be very loud. Most drivers pack the bell with paper to deaden the sound.

Passengers are so stupid on the whole. I was a bus conductor in London on the famous Routemaster buses ( the open back one).

One day the bus was sat at a red light, this old woman with a laden shopping trolley on wheels got on the bus and started to try and haul her trolley on. I told her not to as we were not at a stop. She ignored me, the lights changed and the bus went roaring off from the lights, now towing her trolley.

Baked beans, eggs ,bread were all falling out under the wheels of the cars behind. She was squawking, I was laughing. She got off at the next stop and called me a few choice words.

Another time at Christmas, a drunk was on the platform  waiting to get off as the bus slowed. Instead of waiting for it to stop, he jumped. This is coming out of Tooting Bec towards Streatham on the common. On the side of the road is a cinder running track. He hit that at some speed and went head over heals, rolling, staggering, before collapsing. We left him. It was Christmas Eve and we wanted a pint.

  2. which sad t**t reported that then................... ?

  3. Some fellows are unsuitable for this job  -  send them down in

    a mine instead.

  4. I avoided the bus like the plague as a Teen and either walked or rode my bike everywhere if I couldn't get a lift.

The bus is slow, stinky and the bus drivers are all as you describe.

  5. I feel sorry for the poor chap. As an ex bus driver I can tell you he has a high-stress job, because, as you can clearly see in your recollections, some members of the public are fine, but the vast majority are a bunch of absolute wankers.

  6. a bus driver shut my foot in the door when i was about 12, then the div started to drive off!
