Do buses leave direct from the airport or do I need to take a bus into the city and then transfer to a bus to Manuel Antonio. Any other good (but affordable) ways to get there (ie. shuttle?)

  1. You have to take the bus from downtown.  Go to monteverdeinfo.com for a bus schedule.  I think it will cost you $4-6.  The other alternative is the hotel to hotel shuttle services offered by interbus and grey lines.   They will charge $35-$40.   It may be difficult to take a plane the same day and you still incur the costs of getting to and from the airport.

  2. If you want to save money and are a backpacker and do not mind to go on a public bus, this is ok, just be careful with your stuff. The only buses leaving directly from the airport are going to Alajuela or San Jose. If you want to go to Manuel Antonio you should first go to San Jose and then take it from there. Depending on what time your flight arrives, I recommend to spend the first night in San Jose, find out, when and where the buses leave and then leave next day in the morning.  There are shuttle buses, they are touristic, but they will not pick up at the airport, only at hotels. Check Interbus or Fantasy Bus shuttles, they are around 25-29 US$ to Manuel Antonio. If your flight arrives early morning, you might get the afternoon shuttle, if you go to the Hampton Inn hotel (nearest airport hotel). Its just a little risky, in case your flight is delayed. If you have any further questions, let me know.

  3. There are several buses daily from San Jose to Quepos.  You can take a bus from the airport to San Jose.  Then a taxi to the "Coca Cola" terminal de buses.  A taxi  from the airport to San Jose is $20-25.  The bus is under $1.  You will find more reasonable accomadations in Quepos then actually in Manuel Antonio.  And a bus from Quepos to Manuel Antonio costs about $.50.   Enjoy your trip[

  4. Well personally I would not mess around with a bus because it takes so long to get there.

Fly to Quepos which is 5 minutes from Manuel Antonio.  You can fly round trip for $98.00 out of San Jose Air port with Sansa Air -  and the trip only takes about 29 minutes each way!

    Good Luck!

  5. there is a bus, I forget what it's called, but it leaves fram the bus station, a taxi can take you there. beware, the ride to Manuel Antonio is bumpy, and if you get motion sick easily DO NOT take this bus, take the plane for 40$
