Question:

Bus or taxi from Cancun airport to hotel in Riviera Maya?

I am arriving in the airport in Cancun around 10 pm and sadly my travel agency does not offer transportation like they did on my last trip. I know buses are way cheaper, but do they go to and from the airport, especially that late? I am figuring I will have to take a taxi, but I know some of them can be sketchy (I have heard some bad stories). If I have to get a taxi, how can I find a reliable service? About how much should it cost for 4 of us to ride? Thanks for your responses.

  1. u can take a shared taxi, this r vans tht u can pay 4 at the airport, they r safe and it will cost arround 30 USD per person plus the tip 4 the driver, u can pay with usd or pesos.

  2. Well I don't know where you are going specifically in the Riviera Maya since you didn't mention but it cost me $80 dollars from Cancun airport to playa del Carmen which is about a 40mile ride. I've don't both ways in two years and I have to say that it was worth the 80 dollars to take the taxi since it takes me directly to my hotel and I don't have to take the bus and stop at 3-5 different hotels to drop off other people. A 45minute ride can turn into 2 hours with all the stops they make. As far on how to get a taxi well you don't have a choice because there is only one taxi company at the airport. They are the only ones allowed in the airport. You can get a taxi inside the airport on the way out there are desks stations that you pay there and not the taxi man themselves that way you know what you will pay ahead of time and nothing more once you arrive to your destination. Of course if you like to tip that you can do.

  3. I don't know if busses run that late, but if they do, go by bus. When you leave the airport there will be tonssss of people trying to get you to take their taxi/limo/van. I'm sure these people are safe, but not cheap. If you want to take the city bus, once you exit the terminal turn right, you will see lines of people waiting to get on busses. You buy your ticket from someone hanging around the line (just watch what the locals do), and there are a few different destinations, so make sure you get on the right bus. The bus costs like $2.

  4. Apple Vacations does transfers for the cheapest rates.   The best thing to do is book through Apple for Cancun or Riv Maya, and your transfer will cost around 35 USD.  if you do not, you can still call AMstar and get a cheaper rate.  They take you door to door.  Apple offers the lowest rates for vacations, I can never beat it, So you get the low price vacations, and everything is taken care of for you. hope this helps

  5. I am going next week and I booked my transportation through cancuntransfers.com.  Its going to cost me 130.00 USD round trip for a private taxi that takes us directly to Barcelo Colonial Resort which is further south of Playa Del Carmen., and then will pick us up when it is time to return. They are there at the airport with your name as soon as you get off the plane so there is no wandering around trying to figure out where to go. That is about the cheapest I have found.  You could also take a shared van, but I didn't want to deal with all the stops at the other hotels on the way.  Either way check it out....    Have fun I know I will  :)
