  1. Bring at least 200 euros.

  2. You can take the train.  It leaves from the airport and ends at the Termini (Train/Bus Station).  It is a few blocks to the Forum from there.  We did it two years ago and was a lot less crowded than the buses, espcially if you have luggage.

  3. HI,,, hmm  i suggest that you take a taxi instead.. it will be quicker probably.....

if your only staying for 6 hours,,, hmm ,, ,taxi ride... souveniers... at least a couple hundred euros... just to be sure.......better to have it and not need it,, than need it and not have it....

watch out for the pick pockets in Rome,, they are good at their trade......

    good luck

  4. Check on the train from the airport to the central train station.  It should cost less than 15 Euros.  If am remembering correctly.  I believe that it leaves every 1/2 hour in each direction.

Take the metro from the main train station.  I believe the B line.  There is a stop right at the Colosseum.  If will only take you minutes to exit the station and be there.  It should be less than 10 euros for the round trip metro pass.  It will be less for a two trip ticket.

BTW, if one metro is packed and steaming when it stops, it is often better to wait a few minutes for the next one.  It can be nearly empty because everyone got on the first one.  Also try to get on one end or the other.  The very ends usually have less people.  ...and watch for pick pockets!  Seriously!

I can not stress this enough;  VALIDATE YOUR TICKETS BEFORE GETTING ON THE TRAIN OR METRO.  There is a heavy fine if you get caught, which is likely to happen.

You can reverse the trip to head back to the airport.  Just make sure to leave lots of time for the airport lines.  They can be long.  ...and do not let the men with automatic weapons above you unnerve you. ;)

The number of Euros to bring depends on what you want to do.  Make sure to bring at least 50.  With that amound of time in Rome, I am guessing that you are not expecting to go into the Colosseum.  Though you may just catch an "American" tour inside.  You can leave the group snap a couple photos and leave.  That will run you about another 40 Euros, but it may be possible.

    I hope that this helps.

  5. There is a train that runs from the airport into the city.  It's usually 10 euro each way (give or take) You can get a bus to the collesuem from there. ( no more than 5 euros round trip).  Entry can get expensive.

Careful taking pictures with the gladiators outside, they'll expect you to pay them... a lot.

  6. I agree with taking the train.  It's safe, clean, and fast.  You can't get lost as there's only one - just get off at the Termini Train station.  You'll have about a 20 minute walk to get to the Coliseum down Via Nazionale (loaded with shops).  Avoid taking a taxi as they set their own price and will take advantage of you if you don't know what you're doing.  Buses are packed, confusing, and loaded with pick pockets.

  7. What is a fair price for a taxi if they decide to take a taxi?
