Busanan Ongbumrungpan ousts Xiao Jia Chen in opening round of 2012 Li Ning China Masters
Thailand’s Busanan Ongbumrungpan had a perfect start in the Li Ning China Masters as she cleared the first hurdle by stamping Xiao Jia Chen on Wednesday, September 12, 2012.
She took 70 minutes to send the local shuttler packing with a favourable result of 14-21, 21-15 and 22-20.
The Chinese campaigner, despite having an early advantage, could not show consistency in her performance and crashed out of the home event.
Meanwhile, the Thai shuttler played with great conviction and locked the honour by claiming the last two match points.
In the opening game, Xiao Jia relished full benefits of the home crowd to outclass her rival in all areas of the game.
She launched a brisk attack and confined the opposing shuttler in the rear court. She kept on moving forward with a steady pace and strengthened her grip with a respectable total until mid-game break.
She accelerated her pace immediately after the interval and gathered valuable points. These productive rallies took her to a decent score position of 15-14.
She pocketed six points without any interruption and placed an overwhelming figure of 21-14.
However, it proved her last success in the Super Series as Busanan showed elevated craft and brought the contest to the right balance.
The Thai shuttler started the beating from the very first stroke and kept her challenger grounded until the last shot was played.
Her strategy was so perfect that Xiao Jia could not find any loop-hole throughout this crucial game.
Busanan, who is an unseeded player in this tournament, mounted pressure by piling up a mountainous total of 11 at half time and then magnified the impact with a staggering knock in the second half.
She placed a significant margin of 21-15 and added more thrill in this match which kept both contenders head-to-head for three sets.
The decider turned into a survival of the fittest war as both shuttlers were standing equal with one win each.
They pushed each other in all areas of the court and took this contest to the next level. Finally, this neck-and-neck competition ended when Busanan put up a winning margin of 22-20.
Now she will swing her arms against Juan Gu in the pre quarter-finals of the Super Series.
