Bush's Gustav presence: how about Katrina?

Asked this question late last night and only three responses which I felt missed the point: "It wasn't his fault...etc". So, trying again in daylight hours...

Well done to President Bush for getting it right this time and going to New Orleans rather than the GOP Convention!

But as the media on every side has said, this was because the White House and Party recognized that it was paramount not to repeat the catastrophic mistake of staying on vacation in Versailles, oops, I mean CRAWFORD -- during the aftermath of Katrina.

But am I the only one that heard no "mea culpa" or amends from him or his administration until now? I may have missed it, but if there was an admission of error, I completely missed it. Now, three years later, it comes out that all recognized that this act was his most indisputable gaffe. I myself have rarely agreed with his policies, but had to admit that the President knows much more than I, and has a right to his politics as an elected official and as the Commander in Chief. But to see 30,000 people stranded on rooftops surrounded by poisonous floodwater and anarchy, and to not see that his ONLY place was in the Oval Office rather than on the back of a horse in Texas: that showed me once and for all that the man was not following any politic, but instead had no real idea of the meaning or responsibility of his office.

Kudos to him and his advisors again for making the right choice this time, and for allowing the reasons for the decision to be known and spoken. But why the wait for so long???

  1. The main failures of Katrina belong to the New Orleans mayor and the Louisiana governor...Did you know that San Francisco was re built after the 1906 earthquake without a dollar of Federal monies.

Exactly who says that the taxpayer has to rebuild a city below sea level again and again

  2. you missed it completely.can't recall when but he said there was failure on all levels of government and like it or not that is the truth.

both presidential candidates gave the same reason that the president go to NO.he and they all thought their presence would hinder not help.

  3. President Bush did apologize for what the federal government did not not do correctly.  I could not find any stories that Mayor Nagin or Governor Blanco apologized for their lack of appropriate action leading up to Katrina.

  4. What not a lot of people know is that Bush offered his help for Katrina and the Mayor, Ray Nagin, of New Orleans said he didn't want his help! Everyone is hating on Bush for that too but not a lot of people know all the facts before they judge.

  5. One evacuee interviewed in Houston, just yesterday, stated that "His facilities are inadequate, they aren't ready for us and that they (the Government) had three years to get ready for us."

This because he and his family had to use porta potties instead of having indoor bathroom facilities.

Inconsiderate b@st@rd has no grace for the assistance given to him and only wants want the Government will "Give" him.

The inconsiderate, looting, raping, free loaders of Katrina need to blame Nagin and the Governor for  the damned shame mess they ended up with.  President Bush and FEMA offered assistance and they refused, saying they can take care of themselves.

The ones that truely suffered were the ones that heeded the warnings and evacuated.  Only to be looted by the remaining vultures.

Thank God Gustav spared them the same destiny.  May God spare them in the future.

  6. You know what? Many of us are sick and tired of hearing about Katrina. It was 3 years ago! GET OVER IT!
