Asked this question late last night and only three responses which I felt missed the point: "It wasn't his fault...etc". So, trying again in daylight hours...
Well done to President Bush for getting it right this time and going to New Orleans rather than the GOP Convention!
But as the media on every side has said, this was because the White House and Party recognized that it was paramount not to repeat the catastrophic mistake of staying on vacation in Versailles, oops, I mean CRAWFORD -- during the aftermath of Katrina.
But am I the only one that heard no "mea culpa" or amends from him or his administration until now? I may have missed it, but if there was an admission of error, I completely missed it. Now, three years later, it comes out that all recognized that this act was his most indisputable gaffe. I myself have rarely agreed with his policies, but had to admit that the President knows much more than I, and has a right to his politics as an elected official and as the Commander in Chief. But to see 30,000 people stranded on rooftops surrounded by poisonous floodwater and anarchy, and to not see that his ONLY place was in the Oval Office rather than on the back of a horse in Texas: that showed me once and for all that the man was not following any politic, but instead had no real idea of the meaning or responsibility of his office.
Kudos to him and his advisors again for making the right choice this time, and for allowing the reasons for the decision to be known and spoken. But why the wait for so long???
