  1. First, Congratulations on starting your own business.

What kind of business is it? Why are you looking at insurance companies?

Have you done any research on the business field you intend to enter?

Very often people go into business without preparing any kind of a business plan. I know it takes time but it is necessary to define your market, what you are offering, identifying what other businesses are offering and determining what is it you are offering that is better than other companies.

    Good Luck.

please feel free to revert with or for more information

  2. If you want to work with/for insurance companies

you should be glad it's hard to contact the person

you need to talk to. That means only the good

and presistence only get to them.

Decide which companies you want to work with.

Do your home work by researching the companies.

Learn who is in charge of the office you want to

    work for.

Write a good re'sume' or maybe get a professional

writer to write the re'sume'. Depending on how far

his office is from you, you might want to hand

deliver it or you may have to mail it.

If you don't hear from them with a 3 or 4 days after

they have received the re'sume' call the and inquire

as to if they had received it.

    Follow up, again and again.

  3. You need to get a database. These are often out of date but let you start cold calling (and updating as you go). Start getting your database together by obtaining (1) membership lists (2) marketing society members list with insurance companies (3) IOD list (4) ask if any friends in advertising/marketing etc have a new business database.

  4. Don't listen to the above people.

I owned and operated an insurance marketing company for many years.

All of my clients were insurance agents and I did marketing for them exclusively.

Do not send letters it is a waste of time. You will get less then 1% it is a proven statistic.

Call the agency directly, ask to talk to the agent. Don't give the secretary (Gatekeeper) the whole song a dance because the more they know the least chance you have on getting to the agent.

And simply put, if you can not develop a way to verbally get to the person you want to, this may not be the job for you.

I know alot of things look good in writing, but regardless it takes a special type of person. And sorry for the harsh reality, but either you have it or you don't.

  5. Don't conduct your business on the phone or through the mail at first.  Do it in person.

Phone calls, letters and emails seem to empower the person on the other end to brush you off.

Regardless of what type of business you are starting, if you show up in person, dressed for success, and have a positive attitude, they will be less likely to brush you off as just another fly by night business trying to get their business.

Do your homework on the net and come up with a good business plan.

If you went to a bank with your own ideas, and said "I want a loan to open my own business building bird houses" they would probably turn you down and tag you.

If you went to the same bank with a business plan for building bird houses that included projected profits over the next five years and how you are going to accomplish this, you would probably get the loan.

Do you see where I am going with this?

If you do it right the first time you will never have to go through this again.

Word of mouth and being there when you say you will be there makes or breaks a business.

If your confident without being annoying you will succeed in whatever you do.
