  1. Yes, some certainly do. Check out Alaska school districts. They start out at that much, but you have to live in the middle of nowhere, and endure some of the most the harsh, and dark winters on Earth, not to mention the bugs, in summer time.

  2. I have a friend that graduated from college last year with her Master of Arts in Teaching and a K-12 Music teaching certificate.  Her first job is a high school band and her starting salary (in SC, not known for paying teachers the best) is $48,000

Her salary will increase over time with more experience and more education if she picks that route.

So, the answer to your question is yes - because I personally know a high school teacher that does indeed make more than $45,000 per year.  You can expect to need a master's to get up there though.

I don't know any High School teachers that make over $100,000 but I know an asst. school supt. (who started out as a HS teacher) that does.

Contrary to general opinon out there - teaching is a better paying job than most people believe.  Ã¢Â˜Âº

If you really want to know exactly what teachers where you live make, go to your school district's webpage, click on human resources, and take a look at the pay chart.  It's public information.  Most people are very surprised that teachers aren't paid what most would have you believe.
