Business trip to Australia- Should I be nice to my co-worker and inform her it's actually winter in Sydney?

Or should I let her pack her suitcase full of summer dresses and swimsuits and let her look like a total jackass?

It is so tempting.

  1. Is your co-worker really that uninformed?

It's 2.20pm in Sydney and it's sunny and fine.

    The current temperature is 17º C or 63º F.

    (Naturally it's cooler at night)

It's only going to get warmer as the days go by.

You might be the one with the wrong clothing and not your co-worker.

You realise that Spring is only a couple of weeks away, it starts on the 1st of September.

  2. Too funny!!!!  if she don't figure out for her self with today's technology, she don't deserve to be told. lol

  3. LOL, it's freezing over here. Hmmm... if she's mean dont' tell her but bring a coat for her so she'll be eternally in your debt...

  4. Well, we do have shops...!  And it is cheap here for clothes.  So you know, if you are not that fond of her, and think she deserves the joke, you could let her pack her ridiculous outfits.  Because she can always buy a few cheap tops, cardigans and wraps when she gets here.

But it has been freezing this winter (for Sydney-siders anyway) although crisp blue skies aplenty during the day.  They say the Snowy Mountains have had the best snow falls for 20 years and you can feel the icy wind even in the cities hundreds of miles away.

For the person who asked if people could be that uninformed --- yes they often are.  Catholic Youth Day was on here recently.  In the middle of winter.  Yet a lot lot lot of the young pilgrims came in shorts and T's and brought nothing warm.

  5. hehehe The tables might turn if you don't tell her. although it's winter we are now nearly into spring and can get some glorious weather. so warm jacket of course but bathers are a must

  6. it is getting warmer. I've seen a handful of people in singlets today.

It's really only the breeze that is cold...

  7. Bit cruel - be nice.

How long before there is some form of payback?

There'll come a time when you need the right answer from her, in some context - it may not come.

  8. Awh, be nice and tell her it is winter when we have our summer. You might also let her know the flight from the USA is 14 &1/2 hour long. She won't like that part.

  9. If your co-worker is so ignorant about Australia, how did she get selected to come here in the first place. Suppose she's got brains somewhere!

  10. I've been chuckling at your question. I've worked with a few people who would make it very difficult to decide whether to tell. I think I'd tell her but in a low key way - perhaps idly mention that the seasons in the southern hemisphere are opposite to yours. That way you can't lose. If she listens, she'll be grateful. If she ignores the hint, you can say "But remember when I said...". What b!tches women can be!

Seriously though, even though it's winter, Sydney can still turn on some nice days, so make sure you have some lighter stuff in your suitcase (though swimsuits and spaghetti straps are a bit extreme at this time of year).

  11. Which bit of Australia?  The north rarely gets cold.
