Buster Posey injury not likely to lead to any rule changes - MLB News
Things don’t look too good for the reigning World Series Champions, San Francisco Giants at the moment. Buster Posey, their hottest and youngest star is out for the season and their chances of securing the World Series title for the second consecutive year
are diminished by quite a percentage. After all he was a vital and irreplaceable part of the team that won the esteemed Championship after almost more than half a decade of wait.
More grim news comes their way as reports are being published that the rule change they protested for after Posey’s injury will not really come into being. Joe Torre, Major League Baseball’s executive vice president of baseball operations said that it is
unlikely that authorities will change their centuries old rule as a result of Posey’s injury and the Giants insistence.
Torre’s exact words were, "I think it's safe to say that I don't anticipate any changes, but I'm willing to listen." He rejected the idea that Scott Cousins was intentionally trying to take out Posey. Torre has had conversations with the higher ups in the
Giants’ club house that include conversations with general manager Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy.
Sabean was in the news himself very recently for the emotionally charged and extremely negative comments he made about Cousins, who was the other half of the fateful collision. He called Cousins a foul player who had malicious intent to injure Posey. Sabean
continued by saying that Cousins only claim to fame in the Majors was taking out Posey.
These comments which are very uncharacteristic for any manager evoked a strong reaction from Major League Baseball authorities who asked Sabean to apologise to Cousins and the Florida Marlins.
The incident took place in a game between the Giants and the Marlins where Posey and Cousins were caught in a home plate collision. The collision left National League’s Rookie of the Year with three torn ligaments and a fracture in the lower part of his
left leg. Posey will definitely be out for the entire season and the Giants are scampering around to find someone to replace him. That will be a difficult task given that it is hard to find an excellent catcher and a bona fide hitter in one player.
Johnny Bench, who is a former catcher and is termed as one of the best in the history baseball said about the situation that Posey "put himself in such a bad position" which lead to such drastic injuries.
On the other side, Cousins currently fears for his life given some hardcore Giants’ fans have stooped low enough to send death threats his way for harming their beloved Posey.
