But i checked out the 8600gt 256 mb card on the xfx website and it said it supported both ddr2 and ddr3.?

yea there just telling you it wont run good with old ddr 3200. all the newer cards have ddr3 in them and dont work well with old computers running old ddr.most new computers use ddr2 right now unless they are quad cores then the mobos call for ddr3
