I asked a few minutes ago about marriage by rape in the Bible (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am0lgPlVFrrA48govOpYesTd7BR.;_ylv=3?qid=20080830234848AA73Ugd)
The basic premise is that in the Bible it says that if a man rapes a women, he has to marry her.
I feel this isn't right, and the fundamental christians I have met claim to stand by the Bible 100%. But how can they stand by this?
A lot of you said stuff about how the marriage protected the woman somewhat if she had an illegitimate kid, and how because she wouldn't be a virgin anymore she wouldn't be able to marry someone else anyway. But all of that really only applies back then. The christians I met stand by the Bible today. They think that all of it is right and sacred! But if this doesn't apply today who is to say what does apply today? Could two men get married today (according to christianity)? Could people have premarital s*x today? What is the thinking about the Bible being interpretive? It seems to me that you can pretty much twist it anyway you want to.
