Question:

But what about this today?

I asked a few minutes ago about marriage by rape in the Bible (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am0lgPlVFrrA48govOpYesTd7BR.;_ylv=3?qid=20080830234848AA73Ugd)

The basic premise is that in the Bible it says that if a man rapes a women, he has to marry her.

I feel this isn't right, and the fundamental christians I have met claim to stand by the Bible 100%. But how can they stand by this?

A lot of you said stuff about how the marriage protected the woman somewhat if she had an illegitimate kid, and how because she wouldn't be a virgin anymore she wouldn't be able to marry someone else anyway. But all of that really only applies back then. The christians I met stand by the Bible today. They think that all of it is right and sacred! But if this doesn't apply today who is to say what does apply today? Could two men get married today (according to christianity)? Could people have premarital s*x today? What is the thinking about the Bible being interpretive? It seems to me that you can pretty much twist it anyway you want to.

  1. This is simply because the people that rule the land are not God fearing people any more, they have no time for commandments just currency, so in today's society anything goes as long as the suit gets payed

  2. Yes you can pretty much twist it any way you want.I do not believe that if you where to rape a woman then you would have to marry that woman. That is completely ridiculous.that would mean any ugly b*****d could see a beautiful woman, rape her then have a wife.If it where true then there would be a lot of odd couple's walking around.

  3. The way I see it is that Christians believe and want to believe so much that all reasoning gets thrown out when one questions what they believe and they will say any thing to make themselves feel that they are right in believing in what they believe even if it doesn't make sense to someone trying to have a rational conversation about it

  4. You are correct, the Bible is outdated and no longer applies today, but many Christians prefer keeping a Dark Age mentality.  The laws of every nation dynamically change to keep up with the times, but the rules of religion do not.  Yes, they often interpret Bible verses in whatever way suits their opinions, and they claim that the verses they find objectionable are only meant to be "metaphorical."
