Butch Harmon insists Tiger Woods is on a comeback trail after his performance at the Players Championship
TPC Sawgrass has never been Tiger Woods’ favourite courses on the PGA Tour, but his colossal fall this year has been unprecedented in his otherwise brilliant career.
Finishing for a joint 40th after his fall at his favourite hunting ground, the Augusta National where he finished for his lowest score ever, another joint 40th, Woods' consecutive catastrophic losses beacons towards his final bid on
the professional circuit.
His former coach, Butch Harmon, however, has an altogether different opinion of Woods’ performance at Players.
Speaking on Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive”, Harmon said that some of the drives by the formidable Woods were brilliant and cautioned that the former world number one may finally be on a comeback trail.
He said, “Friday was the best I’ve seen him hit the ball all year long. I still think he has some confidence issues with his short game. He’s going to get there. He’s Tiger Woods for doggone’s sake”.
Harmon and Woods worked together during the earlier days of the player when he took the tour by storm in mid 90’s.
The duo stayed together for considerable period of time until Woods decided to hire swing coach Hank Haney for another term of six long years.
Harmon is one of the most coveted swing coaches in the sport at the moment and is currently working with Dustin Johnson and also provides services to several other players on the tour including Phil Mickelson.
Woods, who had won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, last month, bringing an end to his winless streak that lasted a gruesome 30 months, was hoping to land the title at Masters for the fifth time in his grizzled career.
Regardless of all the criticism, Woods insists that he will continue to incorporate changes in the swing until he starts getting better results.
He said, "Just the lack of rotation. I just don't continue the rotation, I'm able to start hitting up in the air again, and sending it with confidence”.
He was seen kicking his clubs in desperation in the final round after falling for his lowest finish at Augusta National.
The 14-major-winner started off his bid in the Players Championship, hoping to tame the treacherous TPC Sawgrass for the title, again failing in the attempt.
In his 14 starts at TPC Sawgrass, Woods has won the title only once in his career.
