Butler's Pay?

Recently I overheard the stable lads sniggering together, saying that they don’t have much money but Hargrieves has piles.

Am I overpaying him?

  1. Your Grace, surely you know he steals from your households. Why certainly all proper butlers do, it would be uncivilized if he didn't! If you pay him a wage at all you are over paying him.

  2. Has he made any large deposits recently?

  3. Pay, what the deuce is going on over at Twizzlegrass Manor? he has accommodation and food does he not? why the devil would he want pay as well? My staff don't get paid, pointless,. they never get time off to spend it even if they had it. My man Cuthbertsons retirement fund was blown about 6 months ago my myself and Sniffy Blenkinsop on a couple of popsies we met in Soho.

  4. I would have a quiet word with Hargrieves and point him in the direction of the local chemist.  You should also remind him to keep the ice-cube tray topped up at all times and see if you can source a small inner-tube.

  5. Maybe 'Hargreaves's' time is spent, I usually don't regard such servitude with respect, as payment in kind (bread, water, shelter) etc. should be more than sufficient for the plebeians and gutter-class of society. As for the stable lads, a quick reminder of status and fortuity is in order, remove their clothing, cover them in pigs blood, release the hounds, and the first oaf who lays a flag on the manor gates, wins a ham.

  6. Hargrieves is probably sniggering that he gets paid more than the Stable Boys, And quite right, obviously.

Here's what you do M'Lady. . . . tell Hargrieves to flog the boys, and tell 'em not to be heard aloud when working on the GeeGee's within the proximity of Earshot of anyone strolling by.

Then have a look at Hargrieves's Grapes, give them a squeeze, if tender. . . wash your hands and send him to the nearest Bumologist (I think that's what they are called).

    VG at 'yer Service.

  7. You let him work for you AND pay him? Why on earth would you do that? If he has TIME to brag to the others he isn't working hard enough. I would double his chores and cut his pay. That will teach him the nasty reward of speaking of the unspeakable. I suggest you go rest and put your feet up. No need for you to worry about this further. It will only give you those dreadful worry lines.

  8. If Hargrieves has been with the family for many years (50+) then no. However if he has been with you only a short time I suggest you have him  stripped to the waist and horse whipped. Now please excuse me Your Ladyship I need to lay down. (cold shower anybody)

  9. well i dunno it depneds on how much you are pyaing this fictional person.

  10. I ate my butler last night- you might try the same. Go for the cheeks first.

    fith, fith, fith, fith

  11. he has way more responsibilities then the stable lads, i suggest you flog the lads for gossiping about others pay.

  12. The ring of fire, perhaps!
