Butorac/Rojer outclass Cermak/Polasek to claim doubles title in Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian Open 2011
Seeded at number two in the tournament, the duo of Eric Butorac of the United States and Jean-Julien Rojer of Curacao, outplayed the third seeded pair of Frantisek Cermak of Czech Republic and Filip Polasek, in the final of the
Malaysian Open on Sunday afternoon to claim the double title.
The contest was staged on the indoor hard courts of the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the second seeded team coming out as the winner in the most authoritative manner. Butorac and Rojer wrapped up the
contest in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, taking merely 55 minutes of play to lift the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 trophy.
It was a completely one-sided contest, with Butorac and Rojer dominating every minute of play. Cermak and Polasek have been in an excellent form and are running a 20-9 record as a doubles pair this season. They are rated at number
15 in the ATP Men’s Doubles World Rankings but utterly failed to put up any serious challenge to the belligerent second seeded duo.
It was the third doubles championship title for the eighth ranked pair of Butorac and Rojer in the current ATP season and the fifth one overall. The two men displayed their magnificent combination once again to register their 34th
victory of the year and the second one against the duo of Cermak and Polasek.
Butorac and Rojer delivered 70 per cent of their serve on target and reeled off 22 out of 31 first serve points to come out as the winner in the end. They converted five out of eight break opportunities to drive their opponents
out of the competition in style. Cermak and Polasek crafted just two break chances in the entire contest and cashed in one of them to finish on the losing side in the end.
Butorac and Rojer were off to a flyer in the opener, breaking the opponents’ serve twice right in the beginning to race away to 5-0 lead in no time. Cermak and Polasek failed to recover from the heavy damage done by the opposition
and submitted the first set at 1-6.
The second seeded duo suffered their first serve break of the day in the fourth game of the next set but three crushing break point conversions proved sufficient for Butorac and Rojer to wind up their championship victory at 6-3.
