The former Real Madrid forward, Emilio Butragueno, has come out and said that Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund will be the deciding factor for how far the club can go in this competition.
Butragueno believes anything less than a win over the German champions will be considered as a failure.
He stressed on the importance of this game saying that things will get complicated for Real if they fail to finish on top of this group.
“It's a vital game. We want to be top of the group because the ties in the last 16 can be very complicated if you don't finish first. We cannot fail in this.”
The former striker also commented on the intricacies of this group which is labelled as the “Group of Death”. The English champions, Manchester City are rooted on the bottom of the table with just one point as they failed to win a single match so far in
the group. It is a fact that is worrying Butragueno since he knows the English side will do everything in their power to win the remaining three matches in order to secure a qualification from the group.
"Afterwards, we have to go to Manchester, which will be a very difficult game because [Manchester] City have to win their last three games. We cannot fail in our home matches."
The 49-year-old also spoke on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294. The two midfielders found the back of the net in Real Madrid’s 4-0 home win against Real Zaragoza on Saturday.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international welcomed their goals as good news for the club.
"It's good news that two midfielders have scored."
He continued and said the Croatian midfielder is becoming more involved in the team and believes that he will step up to the occasion.
"Essien scored a good goal and Modric is becoming more involved and will increase his level. We'll see on Tuesday, which looks like will be very important for us."
Real Madrid are currently sitting in the second spot having won two out of their opening three matches in the group.
