Former Manchester United player, Nicky Butt has gone on to defend http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson and the tactics that he used in the Manchester derby.
United went on to play their local rivals in a derby game, that was going to end up deciding just who would be on top of the Premier League table, once the game came to an end.
Following a rather exciting build up, Ferguson went on to deploy a five man midfield, as he set out to dominate possession and pick up a draw.
Many of United’s fans and numerous critics have gone on to blast the Red Devils boss for the tactics that he deployed, as they believe he potentially cost United an opportunity to win their twentieth league title.
However, Butt has come to the defence of this former manager and has gone on to insist that Ferguson’s tactics were spot on and that he did just what was needed in the game.
When talking about the manager’s tactics and just how they were supposed to help United, Butt is quoted to have said: "We had to go there not to get beaten and the system was to stop City from dictating the play in midfield"
"Let's not underestimate Manchester City. They are a quality team, who have spent millions of pounds on world-class stars. It was bad defending by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684. The plan worked for 46 minutes.”
He then admitted that the team’s plan was to stop City from doing much and given the star players they had in the team, they were always more likely to create something out of nothing.
Butt also admitted that it could have been a completely different game, had the team gone through the first half without conceding a goal.
"We were trying to stop them creating chances, which [David] Silva, [http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030] Aguero and [Samir] Nasri can do. If we had got to half-time, who knows what would have happened?”
However, he stuck to his claims that United would have conceded more goals, had they played more than one striker.
"But I am convinced if we had played two up front we would have conceded more than one goal."
