Butt targets improvement against Roma
Bayern Munich's goalkeeper, Hans-Joerg Butt, has said his side must improve ahead of its clash with Italian side AS Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Bayern hosted Werder Bremen in an exciting encounter on Saturday, but despite both sides creating plenty of chances, neither managed to score.
"In the first half, we were careless, we made too many mistakes, and we gave the ball away cheaply," Butt, who produced several fine saves during the match, reported to the club's official website. "We let Bremen have far too many chances. We created more chances of our own in the second half, but we’re just lacking the determination to make our chances count. We obviously have to improve in every area in our forthcoming games, especially in terms of taking our chances.”
With both sides enjoying plenty of scoring opportunities, Butt was able to parry those of Bremen's efforts that did not hit the woodwork or fly wide of his goal.
His save from Marko Marin's long-range drive in the first half was particularly impressive, as Butt found himself at full-stretch to deny the Serbian.
Must improve against Roma
Ahead of Bayern's Champions League encounter with Roma on Wednesday, Butt said that the teams will be evenly matched, despite Roma suffering a shocking 5–1 defeat to Cagliari over the weekend.
"We started our season before them and this could be an advantage, but apart from that, it's fundamental that we win to start our group in the best of ways," the German keeper was quoted as saying to Apcom. "They will not repeat the same errors they made against Cagliari, and they will not want the same result from that game. If you look at their game the result seemed exaggerated.
Butt, 36, is set to make his 16th European appearance for Bayern against Roma.
