Butterfly help! Read description. Can a cocoon have like a face on it?

In my yard (where let me point out there are never any butterflies since we once accidentally killed some caterpillars thinking they were worms) there's this little potted plant that has these round worm-like things hanging from the leaves that won't move. My mom accidentally took one out thinking it was a dead leave. The 3 left have like these weird scary faces but they don't move so I don't think they're caterpillars. If they are, what should we do? And if they're cocoons? I live in Puerto Rico, so not many butterflies except the random tiny yellow or white one lives. Thanks!

  1. Puerto Rico has many beautiful butterflies and moths.  A cocoon could have anything you want to imagine on it.

This is a tiger swallowtail butterfly cocoon. If it isn't that one, try typing "cocoons" in the google search bar, and click "images" to see the pictures.

This one is kind of creepy looking, though!

Just leave them alone, and maybe peek at them every day. You might get to see a beautiful new butterfly emerge!

  3. just leave them along and then they will come out and be a butterfly just dont mess with em or touch em
