Butterfly instructions, which one is correct or effective for 7 years girl?

1. pull, breath, dive and kick

2. pull, 1st kick, breath, fly, 2nd kick (2:1:1)

or there are 3rd one more effective for Jr. beginners?

  1. Your sequencing of events is confusing me, especially in the timing of the breath. What I would emphasize is:

    1) Kick once at the top and once at the bottom of each stroke.

    2) Breathe EARLY. You can't breathe late in the stroke unless you have a LOT of momentum -- and beginners never do. Use the momentum of the arm pull to push the chin forward at the surface. Put the face back down by the time the arms are completing the pull, so she can put focus on her kick and dive.

    I think my way translates to:

    kick, pull/breath, kick, dive

    If possible, get her a pair of fins and see if you can get a couple strokes without any breathing in a row:

    kick, pull, kick, dive

    Don't despair if she can't quite get it. Butterfly is a challenging stroke to master, and seven years old might be a little too early for her.
