Question:

Buy Suv or not?

I am thinking of buying a new SUV but not sure whether it is sensible to buy or just buy a car. I was thinking a suv as it will give space for kids. What other options in car would be better to consider or buy suv? will suv have any resale value?

I am not considering hybrid.

  1. GAS PRICES!!! if your car such as in most suvs dont have great fuel economy yes lots a room luxory not gonna have resale value in the futur when people will want 95 mpg when you are only geting 18 mpg i would either go car or hybrid suv yes they have small selection but will hold value because its a hybrid

  2. Why do you even need an SUV?  That's got to be the question you have to ask yourself if you're going to buy one.  Saying, "it will give space for kids" is absolutely silly.

You'll pay for that "space" every time you visit the pump and if you ever need out of the SUV, it'll be next to worthless.  If you're not buying an SUV due to needing it to drive through ridiculously rough terrain then show you have some intelligence and buy a sedan.

  3. get a flex fuel suv...i think like there is some gmc suvs that are flex fuel which means it gets a lot better gas mileage i mean laot

  4. In my house there is an SUV (CRV), sedan (Civic, and TL), and a few times coupes (Mustang, and G35).

Other SUV's have been around as well...we had an Escalade for a bit....I can count ONE....ONE time where I actually needed the space an SUV offers....and that was to pick someone up at the airport.

A sedan is a much much better buy

  5. SUV-Toyota 4runner, Buick Enclave, Nissan Muranno, murcury mariner, ford escape, all Hyndais, all Kias, one of those Saturn/GMC lookalike SUVs are all fuel efficient suv's and are all affordable that you can fit your kids in.

  6. well with the way gas prices are going up and how us wonderfully eco-friendly americans are taking so much consideration to what we can do to change things... like not driving gas guzzling, ozone depleting machines, which, in turn, raises the sea level etc.. yada yada, right? ..... i would buy a nice big sail boat for the family.. not one that requires gas... but one with a sail and some old timey oars.. so if you get mad at the kids, well, there's obvious punishment.. and you could always teach them pippy longstockings style..or  get a bike built for all the members of your house.. your kids would never want to borrow the transportation device...   but for a real answer.. i'd say you're s. o. l and keep dreaming buddy.. or get a dam van.. like a chrysler, which is not my first choice, but chrysler/dodge is having that whole gas deal for 2.99 a gallon for a while.

  7. Check out the new Journey by Chrysler or the Edge By Ford Or the hatchbacks by Mazda. Any of the new cars that have a hatchback design. I own a 2005 Focus ZX5 but they don't make it anymore although you might be able to find a good used 2007 which gets about 34 mpg. Any, of the new cars called crossovers have plenty of room and get good gas milage but I would stay away from a Suv unless it got really good gas mileage. There are some on the market now that do pretty good but the value is dropping on most Suvs.

  8. It depends on if you are getting a small, medium or large SUV.

Many SUVs are getting nice rebates because more people are trying to get hybrids. If you want to buy a SUV just buy it now and take advantage of the rebates and bargaining.

You will be in an advantage when bargaining because the sellers are anxious of getting the SUVs off the lot.

  9. I think you should reconsider a hybrid. there are a few hybrid SUV's that have decent fuel economy as opposed to other SUV's. They are also almost as big.

  10. No, just find a car that can fit your family.

I have a 1994 Maxima and I'm 6'0", my girlfriend is 5'9", my mom is 5'9", my brother is 6'1" and my other brother is 5'4" or so. We all fit in the car and I can get over 20mpg with it even though the engine is rather inefficient, newer Maximas (95-99) have it better off on fuel economy as far as I've heard since they have the VQ engine which is made of aluminum as opposed to my heavy cast iron VG.

  11. I would not do it.  Right now the resale value is horrible. You will eventually be upside down in a car loan, not to mention the poor mpg will cost you at the pumps. I would Google "Suv Alternatives" and see what you come up with. I've seen articles before. Good luck.

  12. If gas mileage is also important, you have more limited choices with SUV's.  However, I recently bought a  4wd Jeep Patriot with stick shift for 15K.   I'm getting 30 mpg on the freeway, has more than enough power for American roads, & it comes with a lifeteme warranty on the power train.  I think more fuel efficient vehicles will have bettter resale value -- but better yet, is to keep a good vehicle for a long time.  Selling after only a few years is always more costly then keeping a good one for a long time.

  13. Stationwagon. s**y. Sleek. Stationwagon.......

  14. I have one but the gas got crazy. So it is in my garage. I have a sub compact for work and stuff now.

I will not get rid of my truck as it is great when you take a trip and need to transport things, like my patio furniture. My dog cannot fit in the small car.

So I have the best of both worlds.

  15. There are many larger cars to fit your kids and whatever else you need to. There are also many good reasons to buy an suv though...If you live in an area that tends to get snow then an SUV may be the way to go. If you want the best of both worlds you might consider getting a subaru impreza wagon sport or maybe a forester. They are both all-wheel drive and do pretty decent on gas, they have lots of room too. Hope it helped a little!

  16. Pick one up new with gas prices this high and not going down, they are dropping in price all the time offer WAY less than the price and you can still get one.

Plan to keep it for a while, because it will be worthless in resale.

Or, buy a car and save yourself money in the long run, if a sedan has enough space thats the best deal.  Honda civic, Toyota yaris are best bang for the buck. More size and power? Honda accord, toyota camery.  These will hold value.

  17. SUV will kill your wallet due to the petrol prices!  Get a station wagon with 7 seats.

  18. better buy any sedan that is spacious

because they have mileage and resale value

  19. heres one thing i have the biggest  SUV on the market right now and with the price of gas it kills me but if your any thing like me you'll say what the might as well

i say go for it it'll cost alot for fuel but what can you do

  20. a suv is great for the highway but not in town but the gas prices are going up if u can afford it get a suv.

  21. Do not buy a SUV!!!

Good idea not to buy a hybrid either

Buy a diesel car!! Buy any Volkswagen diesel or citroen or peugot.....get a Volkswagen wagon car that will have lots of room for the kids or a caddy life van

whatever you chose do not buy a SUV or a hybrid

  22. just get a nice car

    with gas at 4.30

unless u can pay for gass then dont get an suv

for many kids maybe it might be nessisary but for just 2 or even 3 kids u dont need an suv

  23. Get one. We're going to run out of oil anyway, you can just help do it faster. How about getting everyone a bike and staying home. spend less, recycle...ever heard of going green? They make Hybrid SUVs now. Get one of those if you have to have an SUV.

  24. Depending on the size of your family, you may want to consider something as small as a Pontiac Vibe (which gets 36 mpg), or as big as a GMC Acadia which seats 7 and still gets 22 mpg.  I know you're not considering a hybrid, but one you may look at is the Saturn Vue Hybrid.  This is what they call a mild hybrid and basically it's a conventional powertrain with an idle stop feature.  It gets up to 32 MPG.   They may be hard to find, however.

There's a good chance your SUV will have limited resale value, too.  Basically you need to assess your needs and buy a vehicle that fits your budget not only on purchase, but on fuel as well.

Anyhow, if fuel economy is an important factor to use, use http://www.fueleconomy.gov as a reference as you shop for cars.  You can customize it to tell you exactly how much each vehicle will cost you per year in fuel.

  25. Get something that is economical.

  26. I would say buy what you can afford and not a penny more, you know your finances better then anyone out here. If you can afford the cost of gas, (which I think is going to go down, the old saying, what goes up must come down applies) and the cost of having a larger vehicle then get one.

Maybe consider getting a smaller SUV one that gets better then most? but now would be the time I feel to buy.

  27. I would consider the crossovers that they have nowadays. You get the functionality of an SUV but with better mileage on gas. That's definitely something you want to consider, especially with predictions for gas prices reaching 15 bucks a gallon by 2010.

  28. hey dude

    sure,

the petrol pricing are ova the roof but depends, a scool drop off is just dumb i guess

but any car with an engine of 2.5 litres is a good guide

    hope this helps

  29. Well, how many kids do you have?  If you have more than can fit in a car, just get a minivan or a regular van.  With the gas prices these days, buying an SUV is just stupid unless you're a millionaire.

  30. Just get Honda Fit...you will love it..

Good price...Good style.... not bad Gas mileage..

Hybrid to me..Expensive..and not Powerful engine..

  31. you can put kids in a car..........
