Question:

Buy Viola on Ebay?

I'm planning on starting viola lessons soon, but I need to buy a viola. I've looked at stores around town and online, but most of the instruments- even if I rent- are too expensive. However, I have found several on ebay for $50 or less. I know they won't be very good and won't last long, but since I'm a beginner, all I really need is something that works. These violas also come with a case, rosin, and a tuner/metronome, which is nice. Should I get it here?

If you say no, do you have any suggestions for inexpensive (less than $150) violas I can buy? Thanks!

  1. You'll need to find out if you're good at viola before you buy an expensive one! Oh and your size too...

Buy a cheap one for now and work with it!

    Or find a used one.

What is it they say "The older the fiddle, the sweeter the tune"

    Good luck!

  2. Why don't you try these at $230:

If you buy an instrument on Ebay, it's a joke;  you'll have to pay $200 just to buy a decent bow and get the viola in shape that it'll play, and you'd still have a piece of junk.

  3. I wouldn't recommend buying musical instruments on ebay. I've heard quite a few nightmare stories by parents who bought very inferior instruments there and had terrible time trying to return them.

Even though it might be a little more expensive I suggest you check out sharmusic.com

They are a reputable string instrument dealers who sell reliable violas and other strings as well as sheet music and other musical needs.

You can even rent instruments from them.

Check out the web site and give them a call.

    Good Luck.
