caravan not a good go in Ireland, you will be referred to as a 'knacker'. Maybe a mobile home would be a more civilised option.

we live in ireland and my sister recently bought one but it had to be made in and imported from the uk. i think you can only buy a second hand one in ireland.

        There is a small bit of a stigma attached to caravan owners in Ireland, the things are usually associated with Trvallers,(Gypsies) and not a lot of people trust people who live in caravans, in case they are of the Gypsy ilk, This is very unfortunate really, but sadly it is a fact of Irish life, and as such is very unfair to those people who just want a caravan to live in when they are away from their settled address. Still, if you need to purchase a caravan, for just such a need, and be able to tour about with an easy mind, then take a look in the local newspapers where you live, and don't forget to haggle over the price, because you can be positively certain that a traveller will, and, would get it for less than you would.If you succeed in buying a caravan, make sure everyone you know is aware of the reasons you have bought it, and you should get to enjoy living in it when you are away from home, if you can find a caravanners club, join it, they will certainly give you some great tips for some great trips, and in the back pages of their magazine 'Caravan Monthly', there will be the addresses of some reliable camp sites too.  Enjoy yourself, and have good fun too,....Tony M
