Question:

Buy brand name cookware in Paris?

I will be traveling to Paris for a couple of days. Does anyone know if I can get good deals on Le Creuset or Staub cookware there for a good bargain? I heard the French also make a lot of nice silicone bake pans. Are the prices worthwhile to lug things back all the way? Is there a mall or store anyone can recommend to hunt for good prices of these things?

  1. you can go to BHV or Printemps, it is not cheap but you will find everything you need. Now if you are looking for good prices you have to go to"solderies" : small shops held by Indians or Algerians opened any time and very useful

  2. If you check out the cookware isles in any U.S. Wal-Mart, you will see the country of origin on their cookware is FRANCE.

  3. With the dollar so depressed against the Euro, it's not really a good bargain to buy a lot of things in France to take back to the US.  I would also say that you are not going to see a large quality difference, especially among the higher end cookware.

However, if you want to buy a few things as a memento of your trip to Paris, here is what I would recommend.

Galeries Lafayette (Metro Opera) has a store dedicated to the home called Lafayette Maison.  On the lower level you will find a wide assortment of cookware, utensils, etc all of excellent quality and brand.

The other great option is Le Bon Marche (Metro Sevres Babylone).  It also has an excellent array of cookware also of outstanding quality.

Whichever one you buy from, try to get the tax-free rebate in the store.  That will save you about 20% on your purchase.
