  1. I like the idea of people not buying gas of the 15th but it will not have a large effect on the oil industry because the demand still remains. If everyone lowered the amount of gasoline used each week by 15 percent would have a larger impact on the price of gasoline. The demand for fuel would be less than the supply and prices would be lowered to encourage sales. If the government enlarged the amount of ethanol and biodiesel produced would also have a big impact on the demand of fuel. Renewable fuels creates more jobs in the US and helps the economy along with the benefits of cleaner burning fuel and less carbon dioxide emissions. The modification on cars to be able to burn ethanol is minimal and inexpensive.

  2. While it may sound good, it will have no effect.  If everyone does it, the most it will do is produce longer lines on the days before and the day or so after.  You haven't shown the oil companies that you intend to do anything different to change the demand.  If people really want to do something, try proposing that everyone carpool, preferably with 3 or 4 co-workers, to work for one month.  Then, when some of those people continue that because of the benefits, the change in demand may have some effect.

  3. yes, i will not buy any gas on May 15th. pass it on.

  4. yes we should, might as well, it dropped 30 cents i think in the boycott from before

  5. oh I will not buy any, but I better run out and fill up now.......

If you really want to make a difference try walking or riding a bike and get others to.  Not buying gas is a waist of time if you still use it.

By the way gas is still too cheap.  If it cost more we would have more reason to improve the gas consumption, and or develop other sources of energy, like liquid hydrogen, which is better for the environment.  Basic economics.

    Sorry to burst your bubble.

  6. sure but i like bkc99xx answer better

  7. looks like everyone is on the same page.  If all commited to purchasing a diesel and using a wvo kit.... then the companies would be hurting....

i would have to sell exxon stock and buy..... Wesson oil!?!?!?

  8. Please feel free not to buy gas on May 15, but it won't make any difference.

  9. It won't do anything to ban the gas station for one day. Everyone will just fill up today or the day after. The buying of gas will just shift over.

  10. I think this is a great idea, however, I think we all need to lower our gas consumption in order to send a definitive message to the oil companies.  We complain about gas prices and how it affects our pocketbooks, but do nothing to change the way we live our lives.  If everyone just took the bus or carpooled once a week, this would hurt the oil companies more than just not buying gas for a day.

  11. almost a good idea, but what they well do is increase the gas prices again. but taking transit or biking or walking would be a good idea.

  12. I think it's a good idea because it shows congress that Americans collectively are concerned about buying gas from the Middle East.  But as others mentioned, unless you drive less that week than normal, you will simply buy more gas just before or after.  The weekly EIA gasoline inventories on the NYMEX are how traders adjust the price of RBOB gasoline (The stuff you buy at the pump).  So, if you want the inventory numbers to go up for a week (causing prices to come down), you have to put off your normal gas buying a whole week.  However, if you fill up more the next week, inventories will go down and prices will go back up.

Fill all your tires to 35 psi, Keep your speed under 65 mph, take excess weight out of your car, turn off your car if you think it will idle for more than 10 seconds, and if you are in the market for a new car or "new" used car make sure it has a manual transmission and gets the best gas mileage possible!  You can look up those numbers on www.fueleconomy.gov

Or do like me and DON'T BUY GASOLINE ANYMORE AT ALL!  I run all 3 of my families vehicles on used cooking oil from my neighborhood restaurant.  1986 Ford F250 pickup, 1997 Jetta TDI, 1985 Mercedes 300d.  All very happy with no foreign oil in the tank, and I'm happy we're helping to prevent global warming, and not requiring our soldiers to die in Iraq to fight for our oil.  Look into it.

  13. you got it i won;t buy any and i;ll tell my friends and neighbors,,a few will do it ....we need to do something ..here in Seattle the cheapest gas is 3.44 a gallon i;m a single mom and this much is kicking my butt and alot of others too.... good luck.

  14. A one day gas boycott will have ZERO effect on Big Oil Companies.

They track sales on a bi-weekly basis. They wouldn't even notice a one day difference.

In order for them to even realize there'd been a "boycott", you'd have to buy no gas at all for 2 weeks.

It does however, hurt the stations owners that are only making about a 10% profit on the gas now.

Why one-day gasoline 'boycott' won't work

Here's another article on why it doesn't work

  15. i like the idea, i wont buy gas either. also i agree with the fellow who suggested the carpool boycott.

  16. My hybrid won't need any!

  17. gas will go up

  18. its a good idea ,perhaps we should do more
