Question:

Buy one get one free! Is this a rip off?

Everywhere you shop these days seem to have the BOGOF sign on their items. Is it really to our advantage to buy two when you really only need one. I have bought their offer only to find that the second item is not required and gets thrown away. So is it just kidding us or what?

  1. It's not a rip off and ya don't have to get the free one! Usually, (and i know this cause i work in a supermarket) when theres a BOGOF offer that isn't shown on packaging, it's due to the shop ordering too much of the product and not being able to sell it.

They up the price a little and give one away for free. It does work to our advantage but as you said, not everyone uses the free one so it goes out. It's a waste of the product but not the money as it's free.

    =)

  2. If you don't want the free one give it to someone that does,

  3. why do they never have these BOGOF offers on televisions or dvd players..

  4. well its not a rip off if they r giving it away 4 free is it! if u dont want it then just buy the 1

  5. It is a promotion to get you to buy.  Many who buy the BOGOF item also buy other things too.

That is the whole idea to get you to buy.

  6. it is a way fo getting you to spend more money

the actual price of one single item has been inflated, so the company dont actually lose too much, it is their marketing strategy

the more you perceive to get for free, the more you think the company has value for money, the more you spend with them

  7. Its all a con.You get nothing free.Its 2 at half price.

  8. of course its not a rip off your only paying for one....your getting the other free so your saving on the free one wether you want it or not.......

  9. Something is only worth what you will pay for it, if you buy it , it was obviously worth that to you at that time, if you don't think it a worthwhile deal, just pass on it and don't buy it if you don't need it/

  10. It depends on whether the single price is its usual price or not.  Also, if the manufacturers are doing a special deal, say, for a good season, they may be able to get it at a cheaper than usual price and pass on some of the discount to the customer in BOGOF offers.

It can be a waste if you don't actually need 2 of one offer product, though.

Also, it entices people to use their store and do the rest of their grocery shopping there at the same time.  Impulse and convenience buying is very useful to supermarkets!!

  11. Adverts are placed to attract customers

Nothing bad in  'buy one, get one free"

The price of  the one you buy has been inflated to cover the two

  12. it's not a rip-off, it's just marketing.

  13. In life, nothing is free.

Also it a way of the shop to get rid of more stock.

  14. It is obviously worth it if you use enough of the product to use it up before it's best before date. If it is just going to sit in the cupboard for months, obviously not. I tend to go for the half price offers now, as you only need to get the one, and if you do buy two you are effectively getting the second one free.
