My wife has the w580i and I have the blackberry pearl, although mine is an 8130. Long and short of it is I am using my wife's phone because my pearl is dead. Its the 3rd pearl in 7 months that has died. I regret getting it. Therefore the answer is hands down the w580i. If the question was the Blackberry Curve, then the answer would be different. The pearl is a highly problematic device. The w580i has an FM Tuner built in, a music player built in, and no Rim device can do that yet....

W580. Is much better than the Pearl. It has more entertaining features. Not to mention a pedometer on it that will calculate your average speed, amount of steps , maximum speed . You have radio and you can listen to music on it. Plus it has the anti shock so when running  or driving somewhere if the road is bumpy your player won't jump and you can listen to your music impeccably.

Finally, price wise. Blackberry will use data. Do you really want to get a data plan and pay extra money for usage?
