Question:

Buy stock from just one company, what discount brokerage?

I just want to buy some shares of one company and sell them in about 4-6 months, but I can't figure out whether Ameritrade or Scottrade or what is better and will cost me less. There's so many commissions and withdrawal fees. What would you recommend for a first-time buyer who plans only this one transaction?

  1. Of course it really depends on what features your are looking for.  It sound like you really dont need a lot of bells and whistle and that the best cost might fit for you.  Here's a link to Smart Money's review of online discount brokerages:  http://www.smartmoney.com/brokers/index....

However, I have to ask how will you be deciding what stock you'll be buying.  How did you come with that time frame of 4-6 months.

I wouldnt be focusing as much on what broker I should use when I havent developed my personalized trade plan.  Without a plan or trading system, you'll just be throwing your money away and it wont matter who you choose.

Take the time to define Where You Are, Where You Want to Go, and How will you get there?  What techncial indicators will you use for trade confirmation.  What sectors will you invest in?  How will you setup your trading routines to be your trade plan in action.

I applaud you trying to investigate the vehicle you'll use to invest.  Please put just as much effort into what vehicles you'll invest in.

  2. Scottrade.  No fees that I know of other than $7.00 per trade.
