i asked a question before about the diff between 667 mhz processor and 800 mhz processor and since dell only has 667 mhz ram im wondering if i should get the 800 mhz processor with 1 gig of 667 ram and upgrade the ram myself or if i should just get 3 gigs from dell. i also heard dells are hard to upgrade on your own so if thats true then i might as well get 3 gigs of ram from dell right? but if not then whats the best option for me?

  1. Dells are way better quality than HP in my opinion... but to answer your original question:

Dells are fine to upgrade on your own.  It's mainly power supplies that can be goofy, but even that's gotten better in recent models.

I have a Optiplex GX745 and it works fine.  Go with what-ever is cheapest for the ram option.  Dell might have a dell on the 3GB upgrade, where as if they don't, it might be cheaper to pickup a 2GB stick from Newegg and drop it in their yourself.

  2. Dell do not impress me with the quality, a bit cheaper but poor quality.

Spend just a little extra and get Hewlett Packard, well worth the extra.

Two gig of ram is nice to have with vista but some now have three installed and this is now my choice.

Not that bothered about processor speed, I can afford to wait an extra tenth of a second whilst something loads.

You can see Hewlett Packard in Staples either in U.K. or far cheaper in USA
