  1. I was at Costco last night and they had foam boards for $99 and regular longboards for $299.

  2. Look in the 9' to 9'6" range.  I would avoid any board sold at Costco.  They are crappy Chinese pop outs.  Craigslist is a god place to start if you don't want o buy a new one.

  3. go on craigslist and search for "long board, egg board, or fun board" in the sports section. find a cheap but good one with a leash; a leash is a must. you can go anywhere from 7 to 10 foot or so, whichever you feel more comfortable with carrying.

costco sells a soft top long board for 99 bucks... but it's costco.

  4. long board size doesnt really matter, its not a like a snowboard where a certain size fits best, its just about preferance, along with the shape, there are very many differnt sizes/shapes just choose one that you like..  sector 9 is a very good company alot of people use, but its highly unlikly you would break one , so really the board isnt as important as good bearings and wheels get a high abec bearing, such as reds 7 or so are good, smooth wheels.. most standard complete sector 9's are about $150 at a store such as zumiez, if you just want one to ride hands down, doesnt matter, go to www.blankdeck.com [maybe decks instead] and just buy a complete blank, my friend has one got if for 100$ works just fine, just as good as a sector 9 just alot cheaper, and you can even paint it to customize it.

    hope this helped!

  5. I am about 5'6 and i use a 9 foot longboard. It paddles good and has that nice longboard feel. If you are a beginner i would look into a softtop like BZ or Surface.

  6. Well, I don't know where you surf, and I don't know if you are any good. But, if you go to a good local surf shop, they will give you the right advice and sell you a board that is just right for your size, skill level, local break and your budget.

There may be lots of nice suggestions here, but don't waste your time (or your money) buying a surfboard on line. Go to a surf shop, where people who earn their living selling surfboards can give you good advice. I have been surfing since 1966, and I ask all my surfing questions at good surf shops.
