I remember hearing my chemestry teacher (I'm in 10th grade) say that you can buy carbon credits to, I guess off set, the co2 put in the air when you drive a car. She said that it costs like $ 50 a year and the money goes to things like alternative fuel research, is this true? Where can I buy carbon credits? How much? Anything I should know?

  1. The money goes to make Al Gore very wealthy - and there is nothing you can do to stop global warming.  The current warming cycle started about 12,000 years ago, when the sun's energy output increased and began melting back the glaciers.  Since then, the glaciers have retreated by over a thousand miles, allowing more land for plants, animals and people to grow.  Warming released more CO2 into the atmosphere which plants use as food.  More CO2 means a more green Earth.  This is good.

Very little of the money is going to alternative energy research.  Besides, the Bush Administration has already started this nation on the path to truly clean, renewable energy in the form of geothermal and hydrogen power.

Your teacher is just trying to get you used to giving more of your money to greedy tricksters.  You are being tricked.

  2. "Carbon credits" are basically donations made to environmental groups.  For each X amount of money you donate, the group invests it in a project that reduces carbon emissions by Y pounds.   These credits are mostly purchased by companies that want to claim that their activities are carbon-neutral.

  3. You don't have to buy carbon credits. In energy companies they buy carbon credits on behalf of you. To buy carbon credits its about big companies who are making much pollution.

If you want to search what you and other countries are making pollution. Look at this and go to quick search.

  4. Do a search on carbon credits and most of all do NOT listen to anything speakeasy suggests. Stupidity knows no boundaries on YA.

  5. Number 1. It's a scam. The money goes to plant trees. Why not plant a tree on your own?

Number 2. Anthropomorphic Global Warming is not happening. If the last United Nations report is correct, I'd think about investing in warmer clothes and putting more insulation in your house.
