  1. I have taken in many guinea pigs from our local animal shelter and other in-state animal shelters. I fill out an adoption application, pay $15, and leave with a piggie. It takes a whole 30 minutes from start to finish. They don't scrutinize guinea pig adoptions the way they do cats and dogs.

I have taken in three pigs from a well known, out of town rescue. I filled out the application online, emailed photos of my guinea pig cages to prove they would be housed properly, drove to the rescue, paid $25 per pig, and picked up my piggies. The whole process, excluding driving time, took 15 minutes.

Male or female doesn't matter. Both sexes are equally playful and loving. Please consider adopting an already bonded pair. Its the responsible thing to do.

  2. Well it all depends of the quality of care. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

    1) Does it have a cage fit for the guinea pig?

    2) Is there too many in one cage?

    3) Are they healthy?

    4) Are they well cared for?

    5) Does the price fit the quality of care?

All petco's are not the same. Where I live its small where you live it could be big! It depends on the quailty.

If the more expensive guineapigs are better cared for get the more expensive.

Male or female? It all depends on quality. Chose the one who fits you!

    Good luck and congrats!

  3. well not all guinea pigs at petsmart are males, i used to work at petsmart and we sold only females, they are both great pets doesnt matter male or female y dont u go to www.petfinder.com and adopt one? its better

  4. Does Petco really keep males and females together!? Not in the same tank though, right.. ?! I wouldn't put it past them.. That sounds really risky, even if they do keep them separate. Mistakes tend to happen in pet stores. I would go to Petsmart, just because I know that they only carry one gender so no one gets stuck buying a pregnant animal. Male, regardless. Plus, they're cheaper there.
