Buying Guinea Pigs at Petsmart or Petco?

Question

Im buying a guinea pig.. Where should I buy it from?

It costs $29.99 at Petsmart and $34.99 at Petco..

I think the pigs at petsmart are only male and the ones at Petco are both male/female..

Where should I buy?

Which is better Male or Female?

I am almost 13 and have had a few years of experiance with guinea pigs. First of all dont go to neither! Most Pet stored guinea pigs are not even healthy their just bred and they really will only last for a few years. Guinea Pigs are supposed to live around 8 years. I suggest you go to a shelter or a rescue center to get one.

Also, guinea pigs are not supposed to be 30 or 35 bucks! Thats ridiculous, you can get them for 10 or 15 bucks normally.

And you should get a female guinea pig. I currently own a male. And the males need more room than females they also need their Anal Sacks cleaned if they are clogged and not cleaned properly it can lead to death.

Not only that but if in the future you decide to get another guinea pig (they tend to get lonly and depressed, so its a good idea to have more than one) and you got a female with the male they would breed. Therefore one of them would need to be nuterd (I dont think i spelled that right) which could get very expensive! Now if  you were to mix two males together they would most likley kill each other.

This is why a female is easier, pluse you can mix 2 females together and they will be fine.

You can research more information about guinea pigs also. They need alot of care and attention they are not like hamsters!

And also I suggest you dont buy a cage at a pet store they are way to small. I made an entire guinea pig mansion that takes up half of my room all by myself!!!

Neither. Go to www.petfinder.com and adopt one.  I have one of each as far as s*x goes. My female is much more vocal than my male. But my male is more interactive as far as being playful and being petted. I have  adopted both.

dont. go to petfinder.com, and adopt one. you can find one near you for np price. and as for genders, it doesnt matter if they are altered.  but if youre not gonna do that, get two females they wont fight like 2 males would. if youre only getting one, it doesnt matter.

You are likely to get a sick pig and are supporting breeding mills.

Have you tried your local animal shelters or private rehoming ads on craigs list?

Rescues care about the animals' well being and make sure you are prepared for ownership since so many are dumped. The pet stores don't care at all.
