  1. Guinea pigs are a social species and need the company of their own kind. This applies to both males and females.

Very few guinea pigs prefer to be alone - fighting is usually due to having pigs with incompatible personalities, or too little space. But in 99.9% of cases they should be caged with another piggie.

You can keep 2 males together, 2 females together, or one female with one NEUTERED male. (Obviously don't put an un-neutered male and female together or you will get babies!)

Males can be a little more difficult than females, but by no means impossible.

Boys that have lived together since birth (brothers) or since weaning, will generally continue to get along fine.

It is also possible to introduce unfamiliar males.

The most important thing is to make sure they have a big enough cage - they need to be able to get away from eachother, sleep separately etc if they want to. Lack of space is the single biggest cause of fighting.

For a pair of boys I would recommend at least 10.5 sq feet of floor space (a 2x4 c+c cage). Please don't underestimate how important this space is for your pigies.

Not only does it reduce fighting, it is vital for their health and welfare!

Pet stoer cages are all too small, and overpriced as well. You can make a c+c cage quickly and easily, and you can make a much bigger better caeg for less than half the price of a "large" store bought cage!

Finally - please do not buy your piggies from Petco. It is much better to adopt them from a rescue - there are lots of lovely guinea pigs looking for homes and you could save a life. Not only that but they will probably already be bonded, and are more likely to be healthy etc.

    Hope this helps

  2. Yes you can keep to males together, it doesn't matter if they are related or not. You can always bond 2 males. Although it takes a bit more time.

You don't need to buy two females, please just don't buy a male & a female. Make sure you have enough cage space for them (minimum for 2 pigs is 7.5sq ft.)

I must say though, females are alot easier to care for. Have you done your research about males? (how to clean out their privates once a week etc)

Do NOT keep them in tanks!!!!!!!

  3. Do not buy from petco and petsmart, or any petstore. They come from backyard breeders and mills and the stores are well known to mis-s*x them.

Go to a shelter/rescue, look on petfinder instead.

Habitat: Build a c&c cage. They a cheaper and bigger.

For males it is better to have more room, they tend to fight over territory more than females.

Food: hay is needed 24/7. Veggies should be fed for vitamin c, skip the vitamin c drops and wheels.

A good pellet will help the piggies get what minerals and vitamins they need. try oxbow or kleenmamas.

www.guinealynx.com and www.guineapigcages.com can help you more.

  4. Yes, you can keep males together, as long as you get thm from the same cage. If not, they will fight.

  5. if there from the same litter and have a big enough cage it shouldn't be a problem.

  6. Well, I believe that you can keep two male guineas together. It really depends. I wouldn't suggest getting two if they're not from the same litter. But, if they're from the same litter (a.k.a; brothers) then they should get along well.

But, even though you don't want to girls, I have two from different litters and they get along quite well. It works really well between them, just keep that in consideration!

  7. you can get two males if they have been raised together.

i have to boys, they are brothers, they get on.  infact we got another rescue boy a year later, and they all get on really well.

so yes you can get two boys.  they are so much fun.

    enjoy
