Buying Used MX bikes?

i am looking on ebay for a used 2 stroke bike and im not sure if it is even worth it because they could be selling a completely awful bike and i go ahead and buy it.

Do you think ebay is a safe place to buy a bike?

another couple of things that i want to know are:

Should i get a bike that's engine has been rebuilt?

What is bottom end power and top end power?

And my last question is, what is the earliest year model i should get? I'm looking at either a yz85 or yz125

  1. 1.you never know what your gonna get on ebay

2.I wouldnt get a rebuilt bike because whoever rebuilt it might be an idiot who doesnt know what he is doing

3.bottom end power is acceleration and top end power is top speed.

4.go with a 2005 model or up most used bikes before that are all beat up.I dont know much about the yz 125 but i do know the yz85 is the fastest stock 85 you can buy.

  2. i would stay away from dirt bikes on ebay.  every 2 stroke ive seen gets the s*** beat out of it.  i would check a craigslist for your area and see if theres one there so you can talk to the person and ride it.  i wouldnt go past a 95.  dirt bikes get rebuilt a lot and eventually they reach a limit for rebuilds and theyll break down a lot

  3. go to craigslist.com.... you can buy a yz125 from your area from someone else at like a grand and  a half.... or even less depending on the year...

you DEFINATELY want a rebuilt one... 2 strokes have to be reuiblt, and rebuilt often.... it's not hard to imagine someone selling the bike would sell it when ti's getting about the time to do a rebuild..... and they need a bigger bike anyways....

bottom end... imagine a 200 pound block of cement tied to each a yz125 and a cr125... which ever one pulled it farther, faster would have more bottom end power...

top end is easy, which ever one goes faster has higher top end....

even back to 1996 would be a great dependable bike..... and they're not hard to find on craigslist either... i actually like the 90's model yz's more then i like our current designs....

    EDIT:

i prefer the older crs as well... actually i prefer anything older... i mean don't get me wrong... i own a new bike... but i'd love to own an older model.... maybe even back to the old-school days, like 1976-ish..

  4. haha its funny you say you liked the older model bikes shawn. i stayed with the steel frame on my cr125 for 4 years when honda came out with theirs. everyone thought i was a bum when i showed up to races with the old style bike. it just took honda awhile to get the frame right.

yeah stay away from ebay for bikes or autos. you wanna be able to look it over and make sure it wasnt trashed. (i.e) fork seals, chain and sprokets, frame/sub frame, ect....

  5. you dont know what your buying on ebay so i would steer clear of it. before buying a mx bike check the wheel's (any play in it means new bearings), check for rattles ( a rattle can mean rings or a rebuild) check the suspension and swingarm bushes and bearings (again any play in them can cost you a lot of money) and just genrally check over the bike for major problems such as cracks and dents.  A rebuilt engine in a two stroke pretty much means that it has new piston and rings in it which  is a good thing. bottom end power is the power you feel when you take off when your at low revs and top end is the power you feel when you're going fast along a straight. try not to go any older than a 2001 model, any older than that you are going to find it hard to get parts. i hope i answered your question
