Question:

Buying a Car Seat out of the Junk Yard?

I have a 2001 Saturn SL2 and on the back of the drivers seat, the things that were used to build the seat (I don't know how to explain it) and other things have started to poke through the cloth on the seat. I have found online the same exact car at a junk yards that's totaled. Well I would like to buy the drivers seat out of the car and put it in mine because I can't find a anywhere to buy or even order a new seat for my car (probably since it's a older model). The junk car and it's good parts are on sale $800 but all I want is the seat out of the car and I would install my old seat in the junk car. How much should I offer to pay for the drivers seat??

  1. You should know that depending on the accident, the integrity of the seat may have been lost, and will not support you properly in an accident. I actually can't think of an angle the car would have been hit at, front, back, side, where the seat would not have been stressed. Maybe if it was hit on the opposite side of the set you are buying.

  2. Having  used seats from junk yards, and  having had  a upholstery shop  fix them, I would say find an auto upholster shop and have the seat done right. Maybe even custom  seats put in.

Smells from human waste that leaked out a seat are unpleasant on a warm summers day and the rats and mice that make car seats home leave behind unpleasant reminders also.

  3. No more then $100 especially if the whole car is worth $800...  But usually its not what you offer to pay, its what they ask you to pay.. theres not much negotiating involved with junk yards.. in my experience anyways

  4. the junk yard will tell you how much they want for the seat usually.  i agree with the other answerer, no more than 100.
