Question:

Buying a DVR--do I need accessories?

I finally decided to buy a DVR. I was wondering if I need to buy any accessories to make it work with my TV. My cable signal comes through a cable that's directly hooked to my TV. I have regular analog cable, no digital tuner or conversion box or anything like that. So when I get the DVR, can I just hook it up to the cable (and then attach the relevant DVR cable to the TV) and it'll immediately work? Or do I need to buy certain accessories to get it going? Here's a link to the DVR I am thinking of buying:

TOSHIBA 1080p Upconvert DVD Recorder/VCR Combo

Any help or general advice would be appreciated. I've never even USED a DVR before.

  1. Hi Placed,

That isn't a DVR. It is a combination VHS DVR recorder.

All you will have to do is connect your cable to the input and connect the output to your TV.

It will have the extra cable you need included in the box.

  2. Thats not a dvr... its a dvd recorder... Anyways i recommend you to get a dvr or a pvr that you can plug a usb flash or hard drive externally. but youre more likely to find that on ebay...
